Biological samples are non-reproducible and non-renewable. In order to reduce the risk of accidental damage of biological samples in the process of preservation, the preservation center samples will realize local backup and off-site backup of important samples.
(1) Local backup
In the first phase of the sample library, that is, before 2023, about 45 ultra-low temperature refrigerators will be equipped in the spare space of the automatic storage area, which can realize the local backup of samples in the temperature zone of - 80 ℃ of the automatic ultra-low temperature storage equipment; The gas-phase liquid nitrogen tank in the liquid nitrogen storage area can realize the local backup of samples in the temperature range of - 140 ℃ of the automatic ultra-low temperature storage equipment; Important samples stored in the liquid nitrogen storage area can be backed up by other tanks in the area.
In the second phase of the sample library, that is, before 2028, the sample library will be further equipped with new small fully automated ultra-low temperature storage equipment and fully automated gas-phase liquid nitrogen tanks in the D1-3B building, realizing the storage capacity of 15 million tubes of samples, and realizing mutual backup with the first phase.
(2) Offsite backup
① Intra-provincial remote backup. In the early stage, the sample database can achieve the backup storage of important samples by cooperating with relevant medical institutions in Hubei Province, by mutual backup database, or by constructing a sample database sub-database in medical institutions, to reduce the risk of accidental damage of samples.
② Domestic off-site backup. Wuhan's superior location advantage facilitates the sample library to connect with other sample libraries in other regions of China in the later stage. According to the construction requirements of the national human genetic resources preservation network, through standardized cold-chain transportation process, the sample backup system between cooperative sample libraries is realized to ensure the safety of sample storage.
