Under the guidance of Hubei province, Wuhan city, and East Lake High-tech district, Wuhan Institute of Biotechnology and Hubei Science and Technology Investment Group jointly established Wuhanbiobank with the overall plan of "government leadership, multi-participation, integration of regional resources, openness and sharing" and the construction model of "1+N" (i.e. one main bank and multiple branch banks) to build a national science and technology infrastructure and a sharing service platform for science and technology resources based on sample preservation and utilization.

Wuhan Biobank is committed to human genetic resources conservation and utilization, technology development, results transformation and data sharing, and to connecting government, industry, universities, research institutions, hospitals and enterprises by building the conservation center, information center and innovation center to promote the effective protection and rational utilization of human genetic resources in China, so as to support the innovative development of biomedical industry. In 2021, the WuhanBiobank was included in the key projects of Hubei Province's "Strategic Planning for the Development of the Great Corridor of Science and Technology Innovation in optical valley(2021-2035)".

The Wuhan National Human Genetic Resource Bank is the first third-party biobank to get the certification after the promulgation of the Regulations of the People's Republic of China on Human Genetic Resources Management. Phase I of the WuhanBiobank Building began operation in November 2021, with the capacity of 15 million tubes of samples and 30 petabytes of sample-related information.

In the future, the company will follow the strategies of "rooted in Hubei, drive the central eastern region, and go global", and make WuhanBiobank a large-scale comprehensive innovation and research center with global influence. The company will aim to preserve 100 million samples and contribute to accelerating innovative drug development, promoting the development of translational medicine and leading industrial transformation and upgrading.
